Two men are accused of smuggling after 26 girls were found dead in Mediterranean.
The girls were between the ages of 14-18 and were believed to be from the areas of Niger and Nigeria and possibly in route from Libya to Europe.
According to reports, the bodies were recovered on Sunday and were apart of the four separate rescue operations.
It is said that most of them died while making the crossing toward Italy in the rubber dinghies.
IOM believes the girls may have been “murdered by traffickers in league with European sex merchants.”
The women have not yet been identified and officials told CNN that they launched an investigation into the girls’ deaths Tuesday and will be performing autopsies to determine the cause of death and were the girl’s victims of sexual abuse or torture.
