23-Year-Old Dylann Roof was sentenced to the death penalty after killing nine black churchgoers in South Carolina.
November 7, the twelve jurors made their unanimous decision, which only took them two hours to make in regards to the shooting back in 2015 that claimed innocent lives.
Dylann’s family released a statement following the judge’s verdict,
“We will always love Dylann. We will struggle as long as we live to understand why he committed this horrible attack, which caused so much pain to so many good people. We wish to express the grief we feel for the victims of his crimes, and our sympathy to the many families he has hurt. We continue to pray for the Emanuel AME families and the Charleston community”.
Formal sentencing began Wednesday morning giving the family a chance to speak openly in court. Roof has asked the judge to appoint a new defense team in order to motion for a retrial.
